Connecting Community Through Pharmacy
Eileen Hon’s journey at Taspharm Management is a story of growth and connection with the community. As the Pharmacist Manager at Kingborough Pharmacy, Eileen has progressed in her career while having a significant impact on the lives of her customers. Her path from an intern to a manager highlights the opportunities Taspharm offers for those who are passionate about both pharmacy and people.
“I prefer community pharmacy because I get to interact more with the customer. You can talk and communicate with customers which I find really enjoyable.”
From Intern to Pharmacist Manager
Eileen began her career in pharmacy with Taspharm in 2021 as an intern. Under the guidance of her mentor, Damian, she learned the ropes of the profession. This gave her valuable experience that would set the foundation for her future roles. After about a year and a half of hard work, Eileen successfully completed her exams and became a registered pharmacist.
Eileen went on to work at several pharmacies within the Taspharm group, including Rokeby Pharmacy and Glebe Hill Pharmacy, before taking on the role of Pharmacist Manager at Kingborough Pharmacy.
Choosing Pharmacy: A Love for Community Connection
Eileen’s passion for pharmacy stems from her love of community interaction. While some pharmacists prefer the hospital setting, Eileen has always been drawn to community pharmacy because of the relationships she can build with her customers. She enjoys being a familiar face that people can turn to for help and advice.
For Eileen, the joy of her job comes from connecting with people in the community and making a positive difference in their lives. Whether it’s offering advice on medications or simply being there to listen, Eileen expresses she finds great satisfaction in her work.
Growing with Taspharm
One of the standouts of Eileen’s time at Taspharm is the variety of opportunities she has had available to grow and develop her skills. From her early days as an intern to her current role as a manager, she has valued the chance to work in different pharmacies within the group. This experience has allowed her to see different sides of the business and build a well-rounded understanding of her field.
“I didn’t know Taspharm was such a big group. I’m really thankful they chose me as an intern. Especially for the internship, they have workshops you can attend. I found it really helpful. It helps with my exams as well.”
Eileen has had the opportunity to attend external workshops funded by Taspharm, which have helped her stay up-to-date with the latest developments in pharmacy and continue to advance in her career.
Advice for Future Employees
For anyone considering a career in pharmacy, Eileen highlights the wide range of roles and opportunities available within the Taspharm group. It’s an ideal place for those who are interested in both pharmacy and the business side of the industry.
“Taspharm is a big group. Because it is a big group and a big pharmacy, and a busy place, they will learn a lot if they want to. It would be a great place to start.”
Taspharm’s focus on learning and development means that employees are always encouraged to grow and take on new challenges. Eileen believes this makes it a great place for anyone looking to build a rewarding career in pharmacy.
A Close-Knit Community at Kingborough Pharmacy
As the Pharmacist Manager at Kingborough Pharmacy, Eileen works in a small, close-knit community. The pharmacy primarily serves elderly customers, many of whom rely on Eileen and her team for more than just their medications. The pharmacy provides essential services like medication delivery and immunisations, and Eileen often finds herself offering support to lonely patients who may not have anyone else to talk to.
The work Eileen does plays a crucial role in helping her customers navigate the healthcare system, whether by providing flu and shingles vaccinations or by offering advice on navigating appointments. Her work helps make healthcare more accessible for the community, especially for those who might struggle to see a doctor.
