Balancing Family and Career at Taspharm

Ange McHugh is the Finance Manager for the pharmacies at Taspharm Management. Her story shows how a supportive workplace can help someone grow in their career while also managing the different parts of life. Ange’s journey at Taspharm is about hard work and finding the right balance between work and family.

“For me it’s the diversity of all the franchises. We have a great pharmacy business model that works and can be successfully replicated across different locations and franchises.”

Starting Out: From Studies to Finance Manager

Ange began her career with a strong foundation in finance. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce and started working full-time at the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. After also becoming a mum, she needed to manage her career while raising young children. This is when Taspharm came into her life.

Ange joined Taspharm looking for flexibility in the workplace. The job gave her the flexibility she needed to finish her next lot of studies, a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting,  while proactively taking on more responsibilities as there was significant business growth. Ange quickly became an integral part of the team at Taspharm, helping to manage the finances of their many pharmacies.

Facing Challenges and Growing

For Ange, her role at Taspharm includes the responsibility of financially managing many different pharmacies, often dealing with diverse software and accounting practices. However, Ange views these challenges as a vital part of her role, finding them both engaging and rewarding as they contribute to her professional development and the advancement of her knowledge.

One of her biggest achievements has been implementing new accounting systems and ensuring they link financial data correctly, ready for interpretation for the different pharmacies on different platforms. This has ensured the smooth daily running and accuracy of all financial reports. Her work has been crucial for Taspharm.

Advice for Future Employees

If you’re thinking about working at Taspharm, Ange’s experience speaks to the opportunities to work with every part of the business, from payroll to month end finalisation of accounts and business activity statements. The diversity of the work means you’ll develop a wide range of skills.

“It’s such a big role, it covers so much of the business that you get to learn every facet. If you work for Taspharm you can come away with a big skillset.”

Ange’s work at Taspharm has made a big difference, not just for the organisation, but also in the community. We thank Ange for her years of dedicated service.

A Supportive Work Environment

Ange points out that the supportive culture at Taspharm has played a big role in her success. She explains that the owners, who are also pharmacists, bring different skills to the table, which has helped Ange learn and grow in her role. Whether she’s working on payroll, managing financial problems, or ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, Ange expresses that she has always felt supported.

“It is certainly a culture of learning.”

As Ange works on completing her CPA, the company provides her the time and support she needs to succeed. This focus on learning and development has been a big part of why Ange has been able to grow in her career while also taking care of her family.

Ange also enjoys imparting her expertise on pharmacy staff to ensure efficiencies in all day-to-day challenges in the pharmacies.
